Five Makeup Misses

Let's face it (no pun intended). Sometimes makeup is a miss. Whether it under-performed, was overrated, sometimes both, it's never fun to be disappointed by a product. Below I list five let downs in no particular order that I regret purchasing. *Disclaimer: Although these products didn't work for me doesn't necessarily mean it won't work for you.*

1. Urban Decay Naked3 Eyeshadow Palette
Can I have my $54 back? I wanted to love this palette so badly. The rose gold tones just ~spoke~ to me. The packaging alone is gorgeous. I had to have it. Unfortunately, I found that many of the shades did not show up or looked too similar on my medium skin. The mattes were chalky and I found the glitters and shimmer shades not very pigmented. Blending the shadows made it look like one color on my lid. Although this might work better for those with fairer skin, this completely missed the mark for me.

2. tarte Best in Faux Lash Extending Fibers
I just recently got this product in my tarte Custom Beauty Kit and I am so mad at myself for choosing this eye product. tarte is probably my favorite brand at the moment and because it can do wrong, I decided to try something different since I already love two of their mascaras. I should've known this can't perform the way I would like. I fell for the gimmick. The only way I would be happy with my lashes is if Natalie Dawn did them herself. I thought this would be like a primer, but it is a spoolie of dry fuzz that is supposed to stick onto your lashes after a coat of mascara. The fibers that actually did attach to a lash (not many did) didn't last very long before falling out, and then got in my eye. Fail.

3. Benefit Boi-ing Concealer
I was looking for a heavy duty concealer that would work well for covering dark circles. It is very thick and not easily blendable. I tried it with both a concealer brush and also tried my fingers to warm it up before applying, but it just sits atop the skin and doesn't look natural whatsoever. I believe it'd be better suited for spot conceal rather than around the eyes, but it sits in my makeup drawer mostly untouched.

4. NARS The Multiple Multi-Purpose Stick
This product works, it just isn't what I expected. I was anticipating a more illuminating sheen but found the gold shimmer in Orgasm to be heavier flecks. The gold flecks last longer than the color did too, so after awhile you just see sparkle. I would consider using this as a base for the actual powder blush, but for it being a "multi-purpose" stick, I don't see many uses for it other than for cheeks.

5. Maybelline Baby Lips Color Balm Crayon
I love Baby Lips balm so I thought I'd try this in hopes of what would be a great moisturizing lip with some color. I got this in the shade Toasted Taupe as it was the only nude/natural color and it looks like I am wearing foundation my lips. Although it could be a more suitable shade with someone of a different skin tone, the formula isn't very good. It is too soft and moves around the lips a lot. It mostly looks like a Lip Smacker mess and highlights any dryness. I was expecting much more from this product.
